How it Happened
Rhode Island ended its season in impressive fashion, shutting out first-place Davidson on the road. The Rams got goals from
Kevin Castaneda and
Brandon Bermingham as they blanked the Wildcats 2-0 Saturday.
Castaneda got things started early with his first goal of the season in the seventh minute. Rhody controlled a clearance by Davidson keeper Lou Liedtka short of midfield. Castaneda took the ball through a couple of Wildcat defenders and fired a left-footed shot from outside the top of the box. His shot found the lower corner of the net for a 1-0 URI lead.
In the 71st minute,
Íñigo Etxegarai was taken down in the box, drawing a penalty kick for the Rams. Bermingham took the penalty and buried into the upper corner to cap the scoring and put the match away.
