How It Happened
Saint Louis swept Rhode Island 25-17, 25-15, 25-13, making quick work of the Rams Saturday afternoon.
Set One – Saint Louis 25, Rhode Island 17
With the score tied 9-9, Saint Louis went on an 8-0 run to take control. Emily Henken had three kills to spur the run. Rhody was not able to get closer than five points the rest of the way before a Delaney Rice kill ended the opening set for the Billikens.
Set Two – Saint Louis 25, Rhode Island 15
Rhode Island opened the second set with a 5-1 run that included a block by
Megan Disu and
Samantha Blahut followed by a Blahut kill. Saint Louis steadily came back, eventually putting together a 9-1 run that helped the Billikens pull in front, 15-10.
Madi Disu and
Samantha Blahut sandwiched kills around a
Ryleigh Powers ace to get URI within 15-13, but Saint Louis slammed the door shut with a 10-2 run to take a commanding 2-0 set lead.
Set Three – Saint Louis 25, Rhode Island 13
Saint Louis never trailed in the third set. There was an early 3-3 tie, but a 12-1 Billiken run removed any question about the final result, and Saint Louis cruised to the victory.
Inside the Box Score
- Aerin Bowman and Andrea Owens tied for the team lead with five kills each for Rhode Island.
- Owens added six digs and two aces.
