RHODE ISLAND VS. MAINE - SERIES NOTES
- Tuesday night's game will be the 27th all-time in the history between the Rams and the Black Bears, which dates back to 1975-76 season.
- The record between the two state flagship universities is tied at 13-13, making the upcoming contest a rubber match of sorts.Â
- Rhode Island has won three of its past four dates with the Black Bears, claiming wins in 2012 (Dec. 8, 51-38), 2021 (Dec. 12, 45-44) and 2022 (Dec. 4, 63-43).
- The lone loss during that spread was a 61-47 result that went Maine's way in December of 2020.
- Forward Mayé Touré fell just short of a double-double in last year's clash with the Black Bears, turning in 13 points and eight rebounds.
RAMS GO 2-0 AT HOME TO START THE SEASON
- Rhode Island had a successful first week of its 2023-24 slate, first defeating Sacred Heart, 91-40, (Nov. 8) before rolling UMass Lowell, 78-38 (Nov. 10).
- The Rams are now 20-2 in their last 22 games played at the Ryan Center.
- Rhody was led by senior Mayé Touré, who paced the Rams with 20 points.
- The 91 points URI put up against the Pioneers were the most scored in a season opener in program history, and the most in a season debut since the Rams opened 1979-80 with an 85-70 win over Bentley.
- Rhode Island's offensive performance against the River Hawks was well-balanced, with 11 of the 12 players that saw action getting in the points column.Â
- Guard Teisha Hyman stood out on the stat sheet, scoring 15 points with eight rebounds, seven steals and five assists.
POWER IN THE PAINT
- Rhode Island's post players have been getting it done at the start of the season, as 104 of the team's first 169 points have been scored in the paint.Â
- Starters Mayé Touré and Tenin Magassa have provided a massive presence in the paint.Â
- The duo combined for 37 points alone in the season opener against Sacred Heart.
- Both Touré and Magassa are native of France. The two have been playing together since they were in elementary school, and have come full circle now at Rhody.
