RHODE ISLAND VS. NO. 14 NC STATE - SERIES NOTES
- Rhode Island heads to nationally-ranked NC State for a Sunday road match-up.
- The teams have only faced one other time in program history, with the Wolfpack beating the Rams 79-49.
- The first match-up between the squads was Dec. 29, 1988, nearly 35 years ago.
- That sole match-up between the Wolfpack and the Rams also took place on NC State's home court at Reynolds Coliseum.
- It's the first nationally-ranked opponent the Rams have faced in the Tammi Reiss era.Â
- The last nationally-ranked opponent Rhody faced was during the 2018-19 season at No. 13/16 Minnesota.
- Reiss, an All-American at Virginia, played at the highest-attended game in women's basketball history at Reynolds Coliseum. Reiss and No. 2 Virginia beat No. 3 NC State 123-120 in triple overtime in front of 11,520 fans.
BLOCK STAR
- Rhode Island senior Tenin Magassa is ranked first in the Atlantic 10 blocking an average of 3.00 shots per game. The blocks per game rank eighth nationally.
- She's the only player in the league to collect double-digit blocks through four games of the year. The 12 total blocks sits fourth in the nation.
- The 6-5 center has blocked a shot in every game this season. She opened the year with six blocks, which marked the second-most in a single game in program history.
- Magassa spent two years at Dayton before transferring to Rhody in 2022-23. She finished fifth all-time in Flyer history with 113 blocks.Â
- Last season, she was limited with injury but still managed 18 blocks in 14 games. This year, she's already stopped 12 total shots in four games.Â
POWER IN THE PAINT
- Rhode Island's post players have been getting it done at the start of the season, as 166 of the team's first 284 points have been scored in the paint.Â
- Starters Mayé Touré and Tenin Magassa have provided a massive presence in the paint.Â
- The duo combined for 37 points alone in the season opener against Sacred Heart.
- Both Touré and Magassa are native of France. The two have been playing together since they were in elementary school, and have come full circle now at Rhody.
- Touré earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team a season ago after being named the league's Most Improved Player of the Year.Â
- Magassa's impressive freshman campaign at Dayton earned her the Atlantic 10 Sixth Woman of the Year in 2020-21. Since arriving at Rhody, she was named to the Preseason All-Conference Third Team in back-to-back seasons.
