How It Happened
Fordham jumped out early and then put the game away late, beating Rhode Island 10-0 in the opener of a three-game series Friday afternoon.
The visitors opened the game with a pair of infield singles and a walk to load the bases. Sydney Wells drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, and Eva Koratsis delivered a two-run single to cap the scoring and give Fordham (12-18, 4-3 Atlantic 10) a 3-0 lead.
Rhode Island (11-19 4-5 Atlantic 10) got runners into scoring position in each of the first four innings but was unable to chip into the lead. In the top of the fifth, Fordham broke the game open with three more runs. Koratsis again delivered the key hit with a two-run double. An inning later, she had a two-run single, giving her six RBI on the day, as she helped Fordham push its lead to 10-0 and set up the mercy rule.
