How It Happened
Rhode Island had no answer for Brown's offense, as the host Bears had a 46-26 advantage in kills while powering to a 3-0 sweep Friday night. Brown took the match, 25-19, 25-13, 25-13, for its second straight win in the series.
Set One - Brown 25, Rhode Island 19
Rhode Island could not get any momentum early as Brown steadily build a 15-8 lead. URI finally strung together multiple points as
Samantha Blahut and
Emma Vente sandwiched kills around a block by Blahut and
Madi Disu. After a Brown point, the Rams scored three more in a row to pull within 16-14 following an
Andrea Owens kill. The Bears kept Rhody at an arm's length down the stretch, eventually securing the set on a Hannah Flannery kill.
Set Two - Brown 25, Rhode Island 13
The second set was all Brown from the start. The Bears scored the first five points and nine of the first 11 overall to build a 9-2 lead. Jiliene Widener's fifth kill of the set pushed the advantage to double digits at 21-11 and URI was never able to threaten the lead.
Set One - Brown 25, Rhode Island 13
For the third consecutive set, Brown led from start to finish. The Bears scored the first four points and never let up. A block by Gabby Derrick and Mariia Sidorova extended the lead to double figures at 18-8, and the Rhody deficit never got back to single digits as the Bears cruised to the victory.
