KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island earned a pair of weekly honors in women's soccer from the Atlantic 10, as sophomore forward
Lauren MacDonald was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week and freshman goalie
Chelsea Mohammed was the Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
MacDonald and Mohammed led the Rams to a 2-0 win at Fordham in the team's lone game of the week. It was URI's first win in the Bronx since 2001.
MacDonald had a goal and an assist in the win. She assisted on
Kaia Rice's goal that put URI ahead 1-0. Later MacDonald put the win away when she slipped a shot to the back of the net in the 67th minute.
Making her second career start, Mohammed made five saves to record her first career shutout. Four of the saves came in the second half as she prevented the home team from getting back in the match.
With the win, Rhode Island moved from a tie for ninth place up to a tie for sixth place in the Atlantic 10 standings. The Rams have four matches remaining in the regular season, the next three of which are at home.
Next up for Rhody is a home match against St. Bonaventure on Thursday, Oct. 17. The match begins at 6 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
