Rhode Island (5-12, 0-4 Atlantic 10) continued its conference play with a 3-0 loss to Loyola Chicago (25-12, 25-23, 25-17) Saturday afternoon.Â
Set One – Loyola Chicago 25, Rhode Island 12
The visiting Ramblers (9-7, 4-1 A-10) opened the match with a 9-3 run, jumping out of the gate early. A 7-0 run shorly after gave Loyola Chicago a commanding 20-6 edge, and Rhode Island never threatened the lead.
Set Two – Loyola Chicago 25, Rhode Island 23
Though an early 5-1 run gave Loyola Chicago a 10-5 edge, the second set was a far more competitive affair. The set featured 11 ties, including 10-10 following a 5-0 URI run that featured kills from Megan Disu and Havyn Rolle. Despite the competitive nature of the set, Rhode Island never managed to take a lead. A kill from Rhody's Sydney Houchens tied the score at 23-23, but the Ramblers secured the set with a kill from Bree Borum and a Rhode Island net violation.
Set Three – Loyola Chicago 25, Rhode Island 17
The teams remained within contention until a 4-0 rally put the Ramblers up 16-11. Rhode Island returned with their own 4-1 run that put the Rams within two at 17-15. That was as close as the Rams got. A 7-1 Loyola run opened the gap set up seven match points, and the Ramblers closed it out with a kill from Marta Cvitkovic.
