- Rhode Island welcomes Maine to the Ryan Center after going 1-1 on the road.
- The Rams and Black Bears meet for the 27th time.
- The all-time series is knotted at 13-13, dating back to the 1975-76 season.
- Last season when the two teams faced in Orono, Maine send Rhody home with a 59-48 loss.
- Before that game, Rhody had won three of the last four meetings with the Black Bears.
- The last time Maine took the trip to Kingston on Dec. 4, 2022, the Rams won in convincing fashion, 63-43.Â
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARSÂ
- Maine is off to a 1-1 start on the season, first defeating fellow Atlantic 10 foe La Salle 65-51.
- Last time out, the Black Bears fell to Penn 56-52.
- Maine has three players averaging double figures in scoring through the first two games of 2024-25, led by Paula Gallego's 16.5 points per game.
- Caroline Bornemann is averaging a double-double to start the season, collecting 15.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game.
- It was announced forward Adrianna Smith will miss the 2024-25 season after suffering a knee injury in a preseason practice.Â
- Smith, a two-time America East All-Conference First Team selection, was named the America East Player of the Year in 2023. During the 2023-24 campaign, Smith led the conference in both rebounding (10.8) and assists (4.7) while checking in second behind Anne Simon at 16.4 points per game. A year ago, Smith set a new Maine and America East record with 22 double-doubles.
- Maine head coach Amy Vachon, in her eighth season at the helm, was named to the Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid Major Coach of the Year Preseason Watch List.
- Last season, Maine was 24-10 and captured the America East Championship to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
CATCH AND SHOOTÂ
- Rhode Island guard Cia Eklöf had a breakout game last time out, scoring 12 points in 13 minutes off the bench.
- The Washington State transfer connected on 4-of-6 from downtown for the new career high.
- Eklöf, a native of Helsinki, Finland, played in seven games for the Cougs during the 2023-24 season.Â
- She averaged 1.6 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.7 assists over 7.2 minutes per game
- She was a member of Finland's U-16 and U-20 National Team where she helped her team win the U-16 Finnish Championship.
