RHODE ISLAND VS. BROWN - SERIES NOTES
- Rhode Island and Brown meet for the 41st time in program history Saturday.
- Rhody holds a 26-14 edge in the all-time series, and has won the last three straight meetings with its in-state rivals.Â
- Rhody won the first eight meetings in the series that began in the 1975-76 season.
- The last time the Bears were in Kingston was a 72-67 Rhody win on Dec. 2, 2018.
- Brown's last win in the series came on Dec. 3, 2016 (76-65).
- Saturday's meeting will be the first of three Ivy League opponents for the Rams this season. After hosting Brown, the Rams head to Cambridge to face Harvard Dec. 7 before making the trip to Princeton Dec. 11.
SCOUTING THE BEARSÂ
- Brown got back in the win column last time out, snapping their two-game skid with a commanding 104-47 win over DIII Johnson & Wales.
- The game Saturday is the first "road" trip for the Bears since a 81-61 win at Monmouth on Nov. 9.
- The Bears have three averaging double figures in scoring, led by Grace Arnolie 's 11.8 points per game.Â
- Brown was selected to finish fifth in the Ivy League Preseason Poll, it was announced Oct. 10.
RAMS INDUCTED INTO RING OF HONORÂ
- Rhode Island women's basketball legend Dayna Smith will be inducted into the URI Ring of Honor during the men's basketball game against the College of Charleston on Sunday, Nov. 24. Smith joins former men's basketball player Steve Chubin as the ninth and 10th members of the Ring of Honor.
- The greatest point guard in Rhode Island women's basketball history, Smith scored 1,174 points and dished out a program-record 793 assists from 1992-96. When her playing career ended, Smith was one of 11 female players in history to record more than 1,000 points and 750 assists.
- Smith graduated as URI's all-time leader in 3-point baskets with 184, a number that still ranks third in team history. She still is the program's all-time leader in assists with 793, a mark that is an unfathomable 423 more than the person in second place. Smith owns the top three single-season assist marks, all of which are at least 60 assists more than the closest total.
- Still second in career steals in URI history with 351, Smith led Rhody to the first two 20-win seasons in program history. As a senior, she helped Rhode Island win a then-record 21 wins and URI's first appearance in the NCAA tournament during the 1995-96 season.
- Following her playing career, Smith entered the coaching world. She spent 22 seasons as the head coach at Cornell, winning a program-record 224 games there. She led the team to its first Ivy League title and NCAA tournament appearance.
BACK ON TRACKÂ
- The Rams had a big win last time out, picking up an 81-35 victory at UMass Lowell to snap a two-game skid.Â
- The 35 points by the River Hawks were a season-low for an opponent this year, and the 46-point win matched the ninth-best win-margin in program history.
- Before Wednesday, the Rams were 0-2 against America East opponents this season.
- Rhody forward Palmire Mbu had a team-best plus-minus of +37 in the dominating win.
FLOOR GENERALSÂ
- Rhody guards Ines Debroise and Sophia Vital each dished out five assists last time out in Rhody's win over UMass Lowell.
- The dynamic duo is averaging a combined 7.7 assists per game.
- Debroise had in an impressive assist-to-turnover ratio in the game against Maine.
- The Paris product dished out six assists while committing zero turnovers.
- Both Debroise and Vital have been pushing the rock. Debroise has led the Rams in assists in five games this year.
- Vital matched her season-best with her five dimes last time out. She had a career-best six a season ago in Rhody's win at UMass Feb. 14, 2024.
