Men's Soccer Receives Top 25 Votes, Ranked Sixth in United Soccer Coaches Southeast Region

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island received eight votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll, which was released Tuesday afternoon. The Rams also are ranked sixth in the organization's Southeast Region poll.

West Virginia was the top-ranked team in the national poll, receiving seven of the eighth possible first-place votes. Clemson received one first-place vote and was second in the poll. Rounding out the top five nationally were Denver, Western Michigan and Stanford.

The A-10 had two teams in the top 25 this week, with No. 13 VCU and No. 19 Saint Louis leading the way. Rhode Island (8 points) and George Mason (1 point) also received votes.

With three consecutive victories to open the 2024 season, Rhode Island moved up to sixth in the Southeast Region, which consists of the 24 teams from the Sun Belt and the Atlantic 10. The Sun Belt's West Virginia - the nation's top-ranked team - sits atop the Southeast Region, followed by VCU, Central Florida, Marshall and Kentucky. The loaded Southeast Region had the Mountaineers, No. 7 Marshall, No. 13 VCU, No. 16 Kentucky, No. 17 Central Florida and No. 19 Saint Louis all landing in the national top 25.

Rhode Island is back in action Thursday when it hosts Harvard from the Ivy League. The match is at 7:05 p.m. at the URI Soccer Complex and will stream on ESPN+.
