How It Happened
Rhode Island completed its stay at the Ocean State Cup with a back-and-forth match against Brown. Despite competitive action, the Rams (1-5) ultimately fell to the Bears (2-1) 3-1 (11-25, 25-22, 18-25, 17-25).
Set One – Brown 25, Rhode Island 11
Rhode Island's defense could not compete with Brown after a 15-3 rally gave the Bears the cushion they needed to secure the first set. Trailing 21-8, With the score at 8-21, Rhode Island capitalized on two Brown attack errors to bring the score within 11, but they could not overcome the deficit.
Set Two – Rhode Island 25, Brown 22
In a highly-contested second set that featured seven ties and six lead changes, Rhode Island came out on top. With URI ahead 18-14, Brown went on a 4-0 run to tie the score at 18-18. The teams were also tied 19-19, 20-20 and 21-21 before the Rams got an ace from
Madi Disu and a kill from
Megan Disu to go up by two. Another
Megan Disu kill followed by a
Dakota Henry ace clinched the set.
Set Three – Brown 25, Rhode Island 18
Rhode Island's offense struggled, as the Rams hit -.094 in the set. While Brown also struggled in the set, the Bears managed 12 kills and nine errors, compared to seven kills and 10 errors for the Rams. URI could never get on track as Brown led the entire way to take a 2-1 set lead.
Set Four – Brown 25, Rhode Island 17
Brown jumped out to a 12-4 lead early and never looked back. The closest Rhode Island got in the set was six points (12-6, 13-7 and 14-8). Mariia Sidorova had six kills and Ally Panzloff added five to carry the Brown attack in the final set.

Inside the Box Score
- Middle blocker Megan Disu led the team with a career-high 12 kills. She also had a match-high .571 hitting percentage. She had 20 kills in the two matches Rhode Island played Saturday.
- Outside hitter Madi Disu contributed eight kills, five blocks and four service aces.
- She leads the team with 62 kills.
- Setter Katie Butler dished out 26 assists and nine digs, just missing the team's first double-double of the season.
- Freshman Havyn Rolle was named to the Ocean State Cup All-Tournament team. She finished the weekend with 27 kills, 11 blocks and a.353 hitting percentage across the three matches.
- Brown's tandem of Mariia Sidorova (18) and Ally Panzloff (12) combined for 30 of the teams' 53 kills.
