Agyemang Scores in USMNT Debut

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Former Rhode Island men's soccer star Patrick Agyemang made his debut for the United States Men's National Team and scored a goal in the team's 3-1 win over Venezuela Saturday.

Agyemang became the 60th player to score in his USMNT debut when he struck in the 39th minute. Just two minutes after Jack McGlynn put Team USA ahead 1-0, Agyemang ran on to a loose ball behind the Venezuela defense and dribbled directly at the net before slipping a left-footed shot under the keeper for a goal in his first national team cap.

One of six players starting in their debut for Team USA, Agyemang played 65 minutes before departing in favor of Brian White. By that time, the USMNT held a commanding 3-0 lead and began emptying the bench. Agyemang – who had two shots on goal in the match – was one of four Team USA starters to come off the pitch in the 65th minute.

Invited to Team USA's January camp for the first time, Agyemang is one of seven forwards in Florida with the USMNT. The January camp is often a springboard for players to earn a spot on the World Cup roster. Since 1999, 30 players who either made their debut or second Team USA appearance during the January camp went on to make a FIFA World Cup roster.

This year's camp is a significant evaluation period for the 2026 World Cup, which will be played in the United States, Mexico and Canada. It marks the first time the event will be played on American soil since 1994.

Team USA plays a friendly against Costa Rica on Jan. 22. The match will air at 7 p.m. on TNT/Universo/Max/Peacock.
