How it Happened
Rhode Island fell behind early and was never able to rebound as it fell at Duquesne 77-64 Sunday afternoon.
The Rams (8-11, 3-3 A-10) took their only lead of the game when a
Harsimran "Honey" Kaur hookshot put URI ahead 8-7 four minutes into the contest. From there, Duquesne (12-6, 3-4 Atlantic 10) used a 9-0 run to double up Rhody, 16-8. The closest the score got the rest of the way was four points, as the Dukes steadily pulled away.
Duquesne's perimeter shooting did significant damage. The Dukes were 12-for-27 on the day. Gabby Hutcherson (3-for-4), Megan McConnell (2-for-5), Jerni Kiaku (2-for-3) and Andjela Matic (2-for-2) all connected multiple times from long range. All four players scored in double digits, combining for 59 of Duquesne's 77 points.
Rhode Island managed to outscore Duquesne 23-11 in the final quarter to make the final score respectable, but the final outcome was never in doubt.
