How it Happened
The Rams used a dominant start and held on for their first win at Rose Hill Gym since 2008, beating Fordham 53-35 for their third straight victory.
Rhode Island (11-11, 6-3 A-10) came out of the gate hot, building a 14-2 lead by the first media timeout and later extended it to 21-9 at the second.Â
Rhody was disrupted by the Fordham (12-8, 6-3 A-10) press to start the second quarter, as the host Rams caused two straight turnovers, scoring off each of the miscues (24-13). Rhode Island had trouble taking care of the ball in the period, committing eight turnovers after committing just two in the opening 10 minutes. URI was held scoreless for almost five minutes in the spread (4:44), but still maintained a comfortable lead at 29-13 on a tough bucket by Sophia Vital and a Sophie Phillips 3-pointer. Rhode Island went up by as much as 31-15 to finish the half.Â
Rhode Island's offense slowed a bit down the stretch, putting up just eight points in the final quarter. The Rams of the Bronx had a 10-3 run to cut the lead and make the score 50-33, but that was as close as they could get as Rhody connected 5-of-7 down the stretch to seal the win.
