How it Happened
Rhode Island's shooting struggles ultimately doomed the team in a 65-55 loss at Davidson Wednesday night. Though the Rams (7-9, 2-1 A-10) outscored their visitors in the final two quarters, they were unable to overcome an early deficit.

Rhody was held scoreless for over two minutes to start the game, falling into an 8-4 hole at the first media break. The Rams started the quarter connecting on just 2-of-9 from the floor (22.2 percent). Anaelle Dutat drew a foul and completed the three-point play to close the lead, but a 5-0 Davidson (9-7, 4-0 A-10) run helped the team double up against their visitors, 16-8, to close the quarter.

Rhode Island's scoring struggles continued in the second quarter, with its first field goal falling about six minutes in. From there, URI scored eight points the rest of the way, capped by a Sophie Phillips 3-pointer (31-21). The trey was the first of the game for the Rams, who were 0-8 from deep before the make. Going into halftime, the score was 34-21 after Davidson sunk its sixth 3-pointer of the half.

The Wildcats built their lead to as many as 18 points (41-23) in the third quarter. Rhode Island used its best shooting quarter (8-of-18) to get within 11 by the end of the period (51-40), outscoring their hosts 19-17 in the block.

The Rams later got within seven points after a driving layup by Palmire Mbu (53-46), but it was the closest that they got as Davidson scored six-straight to regain its cushion and never looked back.
