How it Happened
Duquesne (13-10, 5-7 Atlantic 10) swept the match and the weekend series, handing Rhode Island (3-20, 0-11 A-10) a 255-17, 25-20, 25-18 defeat Saturday afternoon.
Set One - Duquesne 25, Rhode Island 17
Duquesne led for the entire set, as there were no ties or lead changes. Carsyn Henschen dominated on the attack, delivering six kills with no errors in 10 swings. Rhode Island had 12 kills, but also had 10 errors on the attack, making it difficult to sustain momentum.
Set Two - Duquesne 25, Rhode Island 20
Trailing 20-13, Rhode Island ran off five straight points to make things interesting.
Hannah Jonick had a kill and a block, while
Autumn Tombline had back-to-back assists to make it 20-18. That was as close as it got, and a block by Emerson Schrom and Jorda Robertson clinched the set.
Set Three - Duquesne 25, Rhode Island 18
Much like the opening set, Duquesne led for the entire time in the final set. Emerson Schrom had six kills in the set and the Dukes limited URI to an .061 attack percentage to complete the sweep.
