How it Happened
Rhode Island used its size and speed to steadily pull away from Division III Emmanuel Monday night. The Rams opened the game with a 13-2 run and never looked back, eventually winning 105-49.
The Rams (3-0) were ahead by 16 points late in the first quarter. A jumper by
Aimée Michel gave Rhody a 22-8 lead with 1:46 left in the first. Tyra Blye kept Emmanuel within striking distance, scoring 14 first-half points. She hit six of her first eight field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers that pulled her team within 27-19 three minutes into the second quarter.
From there, Rhode Island ended the half on a 22-5 run that put the game away early.
Palmire Mbu led the way with 19 first-half points as the Rams built a 49-24 lead by halftime.
A 32-point third quarter helped push the lead to 41 heading into the final period. Both teams were able to get minutes for the bench over the final 10 minutes. Â
