KINGSTON, R.I. -- Rhode Island freshman
Vanessa Harris has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. Harris powered the Rams to a 2-0 week, averaging 17.0 points per game while delivering in two high-stakes matchups.
Harris opened the week with a career-high 19 points against Holy Cross, then followed with a team-best 15 in Rhody's 68-63 upset victory at No. 16 NC State. The freshman was efficient throughout both games, shooting 52 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from beyond the arc.
At NC State, Harris delivered several momentum-shifting plays. She drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to ignite a crucial Rhode Island run, then knocked down two late free throws to help secure the program's first win over a ranked opponent since 2022-23.
The honor marks the first weekly award of Harris' career.
Rhode Island returns to the Ryan Center on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. matchup with Princeton. The game will air on ESPN+.
