RHODE ISLAND VS. DAYTON - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island heads to Dayton for the Atlantic 10 Championship final Sunday.
  • It's the second meeting of the season for the two teams. The first match was back on Oct. 26, 2025 when the Flyers handed Rhody a 2-0 defeat in Kingston.
  • Dayton is 21-3-1 all-time against the Rams.
  • The Flyers enter Sunday's game on a 13-game unbeaten streak against URI.
  • Rhody's last win in the series was a 3-2 victory in an A-10 semifinal match in Saint Louis on Nov. 2, 2006.
  • The last time Rhody won in Dayton was Oct. 4, 2002.
  • Rhode Island is 7-1-2 on the road this season, while Dayton is 8-2-1 at Baujan Field.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS

  • Dayton advanced to the Sunday final after defeating No. 6 seed Fordham in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinal.
  • A goal from senior Kyra Karfonta on a penalty kick in the ninth minute was all the Flyers needed to defeat the Bronx-based Rams on Wednesday night.
  • The win improved Dayton's record to 15-3-2 on the season. The Flyers claimed the league's regular season title after going undefeated in conference play (10-0).
  • The shutout was the 14th on the season for Dayton keeper Batoul Reda. Reda leads the nation and the Atlantic 10 with her clean sheets.
  • Dayton earned a total of 15 postseason Atlantic 10 honors, including four of the six major end-of-season awards from the conference.
  • Sophomore Liv Grenda was named Midfielder of the Year, Karfonta won Defensive Player of the Year, Reda earned Goalkeeper of the Year, and head coach Eric Golz was named Coach of the Year.
  • Reda is the first Flyer to be named Goalkeeper of the Year, an award that came into existence in 2023.

THAT JUST HAPPENED

  • Last time out, Rhode Island stunned No. 2 Saint Louis, handing the Billikens their first loss in the Atlantic 10 Championship since 2017.
  • Behind two goals from Lauren MacDonald and one each from Kaia Rice and Jill Rosenfeld, the Rams handed the eight-time defending A-10 champions a 4-2 defeat.
  • The win snapped a four-game winning streak by SLU in the all-time series.
  • The victory was Rhode Island's first ever in Saint Louis.
  • The only other team to score four goals against Saint Louis this season was Penn State on Aug. 21.
  • Rhode Island had never scored more than twice against the Billikens in 19 previous matches.
  • Rosenfeld's goal was the first of the season and the second of her career.
  • Rice netted her third goal of the year while MacDonald's pair pushed her to 10 goals on the season.
  • Rhode Island's postseason run started with its 2-1 win over No. 5 VCU in the A-10 Quarterfinal. The win was Rhody's first victory in the Atlantic 10 Championship since 2006.

RAMS AT THE ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP

  • Rhode Island advanced to its first Atlantic 10 Championship final since 2005 after beating Saint Louis 4-2 last time out in the semis.
  • The Rams will be making their fourth appearance in the Atlantic 10 finals.
  • Rhody also made it 2005, 2004 and 2002.

  • It's the third postseason appearance for the Rams in nine seasons under women's soccer head coach Megan Jessee.

  • The winner of the Atlantic 10 Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
