Rams Renew Providence Rivalry Wednesday Night

RHODE ISLAND VS. PROVIDENCE - Series notes 

  • Rhode Island and Providence meet for the 56th time Wednesday.
  • Historically, the Rams are 14-41 all-time against the Friars.
  • Providence has won the last two straight meetings in the series. The last Rhody win was a 74-72 thriller on Nov. 14, 2022 in Kingston.
  • The last time the Rams played at Alumni Hall, PC won 51-50 on Dec. 6, 2023.
  • In the last three meetings between the two schools, the winning margin is an average of just 2.0 points.
  • The Rams are fresh off a 69-56 victory at Maine, picking up their fourth road win. 
  • Rhode Island is looking for its first win at Alumni Hall since a 66-53 win on Nov. 17, 2021.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS

  • Providence enters Wednesday's game on a two-game skid. 
  • The last two matchups have been BIGEAST play for the Friars. Providence fell 62-55 last time out at St. John's before falling to Xavier 61-47.
  • The Friars are back at Alumni Hall for the first time since a 62-53 win over Bryant on Nov. 30.
  • Providence is led by Sabou Gueye and her 14.4 points per game. Gueye has been named to the BIGEAST Honor Roll twice this season.
  • Head coach Erin Batth enters her third season leading the Friars 

HERE COME THE RAMS

  • Rhode Island has won its last two straight games, picking up road wins at Maine and Saint Joseph's.
  • The Rams' 8-2 start is the second best in program history behind only the 9-1 start the team had in 2022-23.
  • URI improved to 4-1 in road games with the win last time out at Maine. 
  • The Rams shot a season-high 57.8 percent from the field in the win over the Black Bears.
  • The offense was balanced. Rhode Island had 18 assists on 26 field goals with Sophia Vital and Palmire Mbu leading the way with four.
  • The Rams are 8-0 when leading at the half.

RHODE WARRIORS

  • The victory at Maine was the fourth win on the road for the Rams.
  • Wednesday at Providence marks the third straight contest away from Kingston.
  • The Rams have their second Atlantic 10 road test at Loyola Chicago next after hosting Wagner and Richmond at the Ryan Center.
