How it Happened
Rhode Island Women's Basketball led for all but three minutes in a 57-36 win over Dayton on Saturday afternoon at the Ryan Center.

The visiting Flyers' first bucket of the game was their only advantage over URI, which improved to 8-4 at home with the victory.

Over the first two quarters, Rhode Island (13-12, 8-4 A-10) built one of its largest halftime leads of its conference slate, going up by 20 at 31-11. The Rams had previously earned a 21-point margin at halftime against Saint Louis (Dec. 29) and had a 23-point lead at St. Bonaventure (Jan. 2).

After the break, Rhody continued to pad its advantage and stretched the difference to as much as 27 on an 11-0 run (48-21). Six of those points came from Sophie Phillips, who finished the game a near-perfect 4-for-5 from beyond the arc.

Though Dayton (13-10, 7-5 A-10) did manage to outscore URI 14-9 in the final quarter, it was inconsequential as the home team's dominant first half had sealed the victory.

Inside the Box Score
  • Guard Sophie Phillips scored a game-high 18 points in one of her most efficient offensive performances to date, shooting 7-for-10 from the floor.
  • She also matched her career high with three blocks and dished out five assists, just one shy of a personal best.
  • Forward Anaelle Dutat also finished in double figures, scoring 13 points while grabbing eight rebounds. She made both treys that she took.
  • Dutat is now up to 607 career rebounds, having entered the game at 599.
  • Harsimran "Honey" Kaur had seven rebounds, all of which came on the defensive glass, and added eight points. She also finished with three assists and a pair of blocks before fouling out.
  • Guard Ines Debroise had six poins and three assists in 17 minutes off the bench, the most since she played 25 against Massachusetts back on Jan. 22. The junior has been dealing with a lingering knee injury.
  • Rhode Island has now won four straight games against Dayton.
  • URI outscored Dayton 17-4 in the second quarter. The Rams were a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe and 3-for-5 from long range during that 10-minute spread.
  • Rhody has led by 20 or more points at halftime in just five total games this season. In addition to the now three league games doing so, the Rams led by 21 at halftime in the games against UMass Lowell (Nov. 20) and Saint Francis (Dec. 20).
  • The Rams limited an Atlantic 10 foe to less than 40 points for the second time this season, having first held Fordham to 35 back on Jan. 29.
