Pitcher Kylie Wilkerson stymied the Rhode Island offense, limiting the Rams (5-13, 1-2 Atlantic 10) to just three hits as she fired a complete-game shutout in the rubber game of the series Saturday afternoon.
Wilkerson scattered three hits and three runs while striking out five. In the top of the fifth, Rhody had its best chance.
Ella Morris drew a one-out walk, and then with two outs
Hannah Hernandez doubled to put both in scoring position.
Kylie Bulinski walked to load the bases, but a pop out ended the threat.
George Mason (10-16, 2-1 A-10) got all of its runs in the bottom of the third. Elyssa DeRosa led off with a triple to right center. Madi Sobota followed with a a sinking line drive to right field. Allson Jones dove, but the ball got under her glove and rolled to the fence, allowing Sobota to round the bases for a two-run inside-the-park home run. The Patriots later added a pair of unearned runs in the frame to pad the lead.
