How it Happened
The Rams were unable to overcome an early deficit, battling but eventually falling to Richmond, 13-8. Rhody held the defending Atlantic 10 champions to just one goal in the second half.

Rhode Island went goal-for-goal with the Spiders to start the game. Brinley Myers scored a pair within the first five minutes of play, but Richmond had six unanswered goals to end the quarter and built an 8-2 lead after the first 15 minutes.

Richmond scored the first three goals of the second quarter before Myers had her third goal of the day to break Rhody's scoring drought just before the break. The Spiders added one more goal and went into halftime with a 12-3 lead.

The Rams struck first in the third quarter behind Myers' fourth goal of the game. Rhode Island's defense held the Spiders to one goal in the period, and it came at the 2:07 mark. Rhody goalie Casey Phelps - who had six saves in the first half - made four saves in the third quarter.

Rhode Island outscored Richmond 5-1 in the second half, and 4-0 in the fourth period.  After being down by as many as nine goals, Rhody was able to trim the deficit to five behind goals from Caralie Basuel, Calli Dunn, Myers, and Sami MacDonald in the final quarter. Despite the effort for the Rams, it wasn't enough as time expired and the Spiders hung on to win.
