How It Happened
The first two batters in the Cornell batting order combined for six hits and five runs scored and Charlize Cai added three hits and five runs batted in to lead the Big Red to a 12-0 drubbing of Rhode Island on the final day of the UMBC Round Robin Sunday.
Meanwhile, Rhode Island (4-11) managed just three hits and one walk off pitcher Kyrie Denny, who tossed the shutout.
Leadoff hitter Addison Pressley (3 singles, 3 runs scored) singled to start the game and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Lauren Holt as part of a two-run first inning. No. 2 hitter Ella Harrod (double, 2 singles, 2 runs) doubled in the first and eventually scored on a single from Cai.
Pressley  scored again in the second inning, this time on a sacrifice fly by Emma Harshberger. Harrod scored her second run in the second frame as well, scoring on another Cai single to make the score 5-0.
Cornell broke things open with a seven-run third. Pressley had an RBI single and later scored. Cai had the big hit in the rally, a three-run home run.
