Rhode Island 10, Bryant 8
Rhode Island snapped a three-game losing streak by outslugging in-state rival Bryant in a wild non-conference game Wednesday.

The Rams (8-19) took advantage of three walks to jump in front early. Kylie Bulinski, Emily Power and Noelle Sterner all walked to load the bases in the top of the first. Natalie Maleitzke singled to drive in Bulinski with the first run. Sydney Orndorff followed with the big hit of the rally, lining a shot to the base of the wall in right center for a base-clearing triple that put Rhody ahead 4-0.

The Bulldogs (11-18) responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, using two walks, a bunt single and a wild pitch to key the rally. Sam Rohwer drove in Makenna Coleman with a fielder's choice groundout, and Hannah Cochran scored on a wild pitch as the Ram lead was cut in half.

Rhody came right back in the top of the second. After Casey Miller and Hannah Hernandez led off with back-to-back singles, Katie Knarr launched a three-run homer to left field. Her second career shot made the score 7-2.

The host Bulldogs – who scored in each of the first four innings – had single runs in the second and third inning to chip away at the lead. Coleman lined a two-run homer in the fourth inning to pull Bryant within a run at 7-6.

Rhody added some insurance in the top of the sixth. With two outs, Knarr came up with runners on second and third. She looped a single to right field to drive in both runners, and she wound up on second on the throw home. Emily Power followed with a single up the middle to bring pinch runner Ella Morris around for a 10-6 lead.

Bryant got an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth and managed to get the potential tying run to the plate with two outs. However, Sarah Trosin retired Gracie Bishop on a grounder to shortstop to end the threat.

Bryant again scored a run in the bottom of the seventh and got the potential tying run to the plate with one out. However, Katie Zaun managed back-to-back strikeouts to bring the game to an end.
