How it Happened
Rhode Island rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat Massachusetts 9-7 and complete a doubleheader sweep Wednesday.

Trailing 7-3 after four innings, the Rams (11-28, 5-14 Atlantic 10) got one run back in the top of the fifth when Natalie Maleitzke drove Noelle Sterner in with a sacrifice fly.

One inning later, Rhody's offense put together one of its best rallies of the season. Casey Miller and Kylie Bulinski drew back-to-back walks before Katie Knarr singled to drive Miller in from second base. Sterner reached on an error that allowed pinch runner Allison Jones to come in and make the score 7-6.

Julianne Torres reached on another error, loading the base with no outs. A fielder's choice cut down the lead runner at the plate for the first out of the inning, but kept the bases loaded. Emily Power lofted a sacrifice fly that drove in Sterner to tie the game. Maleitzke reloaded the bases when she was hit by a pitch, and Hannah Hernandez walked on four pitches to force Torres in with the go-ahead run. Batting for the second time in the inning, Miller singled up the middle to drive Sydney Orndorff in with an insurance run.

Freshman Brooke Gerry (1-2) and sophomore Avery Vale-Cruz pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh inning, respectively, to close out the victory.
