KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island was tabbed to finish ninth in the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Preseason Poll, which was voted on by the league's head coaches.
Two-time defending champion Dayton was picked to win the title, edging George Mason and Saint Louis in the poll. The Flyers received eight first-place votes and 159 points, followed by George Mason (3 first-place votes, 153 points) and Saint Louis (2 first-place votes, 149 points. Rounding out the top five were Fordham (122 points) and VCU (118 points).
The Atlantic 10 is coming off a season in which four teams qualified for the NCAA Championship. After earning the league's automatic bid, Dayton finished the season ranked No. 12 in the country, the same spot in occupies in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll. Saint Louis, Fordham, and Massachusetts - which is no longer in the conference - all earned at-large bids. George Mason did not receive a bid despite winning the regular-season title.
Rhode Island is looking to rebound from a 12th-place finish last season. The Rams were 7-7-3 overall and 2-6-0 in league play.
The Rams open the 2025 season at home against Iona on Thursday, Aug. 21. The match is scheduled to stream on ESPN+ at 7:05 p.m.
