How it Happened
Rhode Island scored twice in the opening 10 minutes, paving the way for a 2-0 victory over in-state rival Providence Saturday night. Â
Rhode Island drew first blood minutes into the match. A shot by
Lauren MacDonald was deflected away by Providence keeper Ellie Thallman.
Jill Rosenfeld settled the ball and found
Nika Jacobs alone in the box, and Jacobs buried the shot for a 1-0 lead.
Rosenfeld and MacDonald paired up to pad the Ram lead six minutes later.
Mie Carstensen capitalized on a Friar turnover and sent a pass to Rosenfeld in the corner. Rosenfeld sent a low cross to MacDonald, who slipped the shot past Thallman to give Rhody a 2-0 edge.
From there, the Rhody defense kept the pressure away, allowing Providence just two shots on goal as the Rams secured the win.
