How It Happened
Rhode Island (2-7) came up empty at the Fight In the Fort, getting swept by Wyoming Friday evening. The Cowgirls won, 25-17, 25-17, 25-16.

Set One – Wyoming 25, Rhode Island 17
Wymong started the match fast, scoring the first four points behind kills from Paige Lauterwasser and Evelyn Udezue. Rhode Island never recovered, though it did show some life during an 8-3 run that closed the gap to 22-17. Hannah Jonick and Autumn Tombline combined on a block and then each had a solo block during three consecutive points to help the Rams get close. However, Wyoming ran off three straight of its own, with the set ending on an ace by Udezue.

Set Two – Wyoming 25, Rhode Island 17
A 5-0 run midway through the second set turned a close score into control for the Cowgirls. After Emma Vente tied things up for Rhody with a kill at 11-11, Wyoming got two kills each from Paige Lauterwasser and Addy Cook to take a 16-11 lead. Rhody Island could not get closer than three points away the remainder of the set, and for the second straight set, Evelyn Udezue closed it out with an ace.

Set Three – Wyoming 25, Rhode Island 16
The Cowgirls put the match away quickly with a dominant third set. Jumping out to a 15-3 lead, the outcome was never in doubt.

  • Defensive specialist Dakota Henry had a team-high nine digs.
  • Wyoming had a 44-24 edge in kills.
  • McKenna Melton led URI with six kills.
  • Evelyn Udezue and Paige Lauterwasser each had 10 kills for Wyoming.
