KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island looks to defend its title at the 2025 Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate hosted by Fairfield, which gets underway Monday.
The 36-hole tournament features single rounds of play Monday and Tuesday for the 15-team field. Last year, Rhody finished two strokes ahead of Sacred Heart to win the crown. Those were the only two teams to finish under par.
Tyler Bruneau finished third out of 90 golfers, while
Aidan O'Donovan (8th) and
Luke Stennett (10th) gave Rhody three top 10 finishers. All three are back for URI this season.
This year's tournament will include Army, Brown, Bryant, Eastern Connecticut State, Fordham, Holy Cross, Iona, LIU, Manhattan, Providence, Siena, Sacred Heart, Villanova and the host, Fairfield. Rhode Island will be represented by Bruneau, O'Donovan, Stennett,
Tony Liu and
Josiah Tong,
Originally founded in 2010, the event is now named for former LIU golfer Ryan Lee, who was a standout high school athlete at Berlin High School in Connecticut. A member of the Connecticut PGA Junior Golf Association and the U.S. Challenge Cup, he was an employee at Shuttle Meadow, the host course for the weekend.
Killed in an accident in May of 2011, Lee was known to others as an individual with a big heart who always took an interest in helping others. To date, the foundation created in his memory has raised more than $600,000 for individuals and organizations in need.
