How it Happened

Rhode Island extended its winning streak to 13 games after downing Fordham 61-47 in the Bronx on Saturday afternoon. Rhode Island's 13 consecutive wins matches the longest winning streak in program history.

Fordham (9-13, 1-10 Atlantic 10) had narrowed the Rhode Island (19-2, 10-0 Atlantic 10) double figure lead down to eight with 1:36 remaining. Sophia Vital drilled a three-point bucket to bring the Kingston Rams back up 11 and ice the road win for Rhode Island.

Rhode Island led the game from the jump. The visiting Rams opened the game on a 11-2 run over the opening eight minutes of the first quarter. That effort carried Rhode Island through the first quarter. Rhody held Fordham to two made baskets in the first quarter. A Vanessa Harris made jumper as time expired gave Rhode Island a 13-4 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

Fordham cut into Rhode Island's lead midway through the second quarter. Ugne Sirtautaite hit a layup with 4:38 left in the first half to cut Rhode Island's lead to 19-14. Rhode Island responded with 10-2 run over to end the half. The run was capped off with two Rhode Island buckets in the final minute of the half. Ines Debroise hit a layup, and Harris again beat the buzzer at the end of the half with a jumper to give Rhode Island a 29-16 lead at the break.
