The Rams and Wildcats played to a scoreless first half, with each team earning three corner kicks but neither finding the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes.
Rhode Island applied pressure to start the second half, recording seven shots before Davidson registered its first shot of the half. The Rams broke through with less than eight minutes remaining following a free kick by Natalie White.
