KINGSTON, R.I. — Rhode Island associate head coach Adeniyi Amadou has accepted the head coaching job at New Mexico State, the school released Wednesday.
Amadou has spent the last seven years at Rhode Island as Tammi Reiss' right hand man while helping create the French pipeline that has sprung the Rams to success. Amadou marks the second associate head coach that has gone on to accept a head coaching position in the last two years under Tammi Reiss. In 2024, Megan Shoniker took the head job at New Hampshire.
"I am ecstatic and so excited for Adeniyi!" Reiss said. "He has always had the goal and dream of leading his own program and becoming a head coach. I have worked alongside Adeniyi for the last 10 years, and he has built this Rhode Island program from Day One with me. He is not only my associate head coach, but also my family.
"The success we have achieved is directly associated with his passion for the game, strategic knowledge, dedication to our student athletes, recruiting and relationship abilities, player development and above all work ethic. There are not enough superlatives or adjectives to describe the incredible man he is. I can truly say his best characteristic above all is his virtue, morality and integrity. One of the best human beings I have ever met!
"Joe Fields is a very smart athletic director. Adeniyi will lead and win the right way. I have a hard time seeing what a sideline looks like without seeing him to my left. I can't thank him enough for the impact he has had on our program, community, University and me. There is no doubt he will lead NMSU to championships, while developing and impacting every student athlete he coaches. Go be great Big A, and your Rhody family will be cheering you on! I love you."
Amadou will stay with the Rams as they embark on their second trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history. Rhody will learn its fate on Selection Sunday at 8:00 p.m.
