How it Happened
Rhode Island used a pair of 6-1 runs to help pick up its second Atlantic 10 victory at Duquesne Saturday.
Caitlin Dellecave led the way for Rhody with a pair of goals in the opening 15 minutes as the Rams built a 6-1 lead. The second quarter was all Duquesne, as the Dukes held Rhode Island scoreless while rallying off four goals of their own to make it a one-score game going into halftime (6-5).
Duquesne scored its fifth straight goal to tie it 6-6 at 8:58 of the third quarter. The Rams got back in front behind a MJ Timpanaro goal nearly four minutes later (4:55).Â
Kate Cumins opened the fourth quarter with her second goal of the day, sparking a three-goal run for Rhody that extended URI's lead to four (10-6). Duquesne halted the Rhody run with a goal to make it 10-7, but Dellecave answered with her third goal of the game before Caralie Basuel added a score to push the Rams lead to five (12-7).
Emma Raines netted her third goal of the day, but it wasn't enough as the Rams closed on a 3-0 run to secure the 15–8 victory.
