How It Happened
A spectacular diving catch by leftfielder Brooke Fairbanks ended the game as Rhode Island edged Saint Louis 3-2 in eight innings to win the three-game series Sunday. For the second game in a row, Rhody (7-14, 3-6 Atlantic 10) won in extra innings against the Billikens (14-19, 6-6 A-10).

URI scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning. Sydney Orndorff drew a one-out walk before stealing second and third base. An infield single by Riley Frickleton brought Orndorff in to give the Rams a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Kate Proffitt drew a one-out walk. After Avery Vale-Cruz (5-3) fanned Ava Wombles, Sophia Boenta came up. She launched a long fly ball down the left field line. Fairbanks ran in a dead sprint and laid out in a full dive into foul territory to make the catch and end the game.
