How It Happened
Big outbursts were the difference in each game as Dayton and Rhode Island split an Atlantic 10 doubleheader Friday afternoon. The visiting Flyers (16-14, 7-7 A-10) took the opener 5-1, but URI (9-16, 4-7 A-10) responded with a 6-3 victory in the second game.

Game 1 - Dayton 5, Rhode Island 1
Dayton starter Izzy Kemp (10-3) dominated in the circle and Camrynn Linneman hit a grand slam to lift the Flyers in the opener.
Kemp struck out 15 batters while going the distance for Dayton. She allowed just three hits and scattered five walks along the way.
She got all the support she needed in the second inning. A walk, single and a hit batsman loaded the bases for Linneman, who lined an opposite-field shot to right center for a 4-0 lead. Dayton added a run in the fourth inning.
Rhody got its lone run in the sixth inning.
Julianne Torres lofted a triple deep to right center. With one out,
Becca Zawistowski dropped a single into shallow left field to bring Torres in, but that was all the Rams managed against Kemp.

Game 2 - Rhode Island 6, Dayton 3
Becca Zawistowski drilled a three-run double to key a six-run rally in the bottom of the second. The big hit keyed the Rhody outburst and sparked URI to the win.
Most of the damage was done with two outs in the inning.
Sydney Orndorff led off the second with a walk and stole second to get into scoring position.
Riley Frickleton drove her home with a single down the rightfield line, giving URI a 1-0 lead.
After a strikeout, Rhody exploded. A
Hannah Hernandez single put runners on the corners.
Julianne Torres reached on an infield single that brought Frickleton with the second run. After a
Kylie Bulinski walked loaded the bases, Zawistowski drilled a double to deep right center, clearing the bases and pushing the lead to 5-0. A
Natalie Maleitzke single and an Orndorff walk re-loaded the bases.
Rayah Snyder capped the scoring with a single up the middle that brought Zawistowski in.
From there,
Ashley Hibbard (2-2) and
Brooke Gerry took care of the rest. Hibbard worked the first four innings, scattering three hits and allowing one run. Gerry got the final nine outs, allowing two runs on seven hits to earn the save.
