KINGSTON, R.I. — Rhode Island women's basketball head coach Colleen Mullen announced the addition of Megan Methven to her staff Friday. Methven joins the Rams after spending the last eight seasons alongside Mullen at University at Albany, where the pair helped build the Great Danes into one of the America East's top programs following two seasons together at Army West Point.
"Megan is one of the rising stars in our profession, and I'm thrilled she is joining me at URI," said Mullen. "She has been my right-hand person throughout building a championship culture at UAlbany, and her impact on our success has been immeasurable. Meg's leadership, organization, and ability to connect with and inspire our student-athletes truly set her apart. She is a relentless recruiter, elite relationship builder, and passionate mentor who will play a major role in continuing to elevate Rhody Women's Basketball on and off the court."
Methven was elevated from assistant coach to associate head coach at UAlbany in 2019 and helped guide the program to 50 wins over the last four seasons. The stretch was highlighted by a 23-10 campaign and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2021-22.
She has played a significant role in developing All-Conference talent throughout her coaching career, including 2025 America East Player of the Year Kayla Cooper. During the 2021-22 season, Methven helped lead the Great Danes to one of the top seasons in program history, earning an NCAA Tournament berth after upsetting top-seeded Maine in the America East Championship game in Orono.
That season, UAlbany collected five postseason conference awards. Morgan Haney was named Sixth Player of the Year, while Kayla Cooper earned America East Championship Most Outstanding Player honors and Ellen Hahne was named to the All-Tournament Team. Helene Haegerstrand collected First Team All-Conference recognition, Cooper earned Second Team honors, Lucia Decortes was selected to the All-Defensive Team, and Lilly Phillips was named to the All-Rookie Team.
Since the 2021-22 campaign, Methven has helped develop nine America East All-Conference selections, including four First Team honorees, two All-Defensive Team selections, three All-Rookie Team picks, and four All-Academic Team recipients.
Methven was a four-year standout at Stonehill College, where she scored 1,014 career points. She appeared in four NCAA Tournaments during her playing career and helped lead the Skyhawks to a 27-5 record and Northeast-10 Championship during the 2007-08 season.
