SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Rhode Island's Lily Saul opened the 2026 cross country season by winning the 57-runner field at the Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational Saturday morning.

Saul dominated the field, running the 5K course in a time of 17:57.5. She was nearly 11 seconds faster the Bryant's Kelley Macelhiney, the second-place finisher.

Host Bryant won the team title with 33 points. Merrimack (52 points) and Stonehill (61) rounded out the top three spots. Rhode Island was fourth out of five teams with 82 points.

A trio of Rams finished in close order to give URI four top 20 finishers. Zoe Catrambone placed 16th in a time of 18:55.4. Alison Pankowicz (18:55.8) and Hailey LaRosa (18:56.4) finished 19th and 20th, respectively. The fifth Rhody scorer was Kelsey Wolff, whose time of 19:46.3 was good for 35th place.

Rhode Island is back in action Saturday, Sept.19 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
