How it Happened
A second-half penalty kick proved to be the difference as Duquesne rallied to defeat Rhode Island 2-1 in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams Saturday.

A long pass down the right side of the field helped Paige Kuisis get behind the Rhody defense in the 60th minute. As Lily Camacho tried to chase her down, she got tangled up in Kuisis' feet and took her down in the box. On the penalty kick, keeper Dani Eden guessed the correct direction and dove to her left, but Jayden Sharpless was able to bury the shot in the upper corner of the net.

Rhode Island had the lead after Kyra Samalonis scored in the 20th minute. She put a shot on goal that Ali Hughes was able to defend, but the carom went right back to Samalonis, who did not miss twice. She found the back of the net on the rebound for a 1-0 lead.

Duquesne tied the score in the 35th minute on a goal by Anna Bundy. A cross by Kayla Leseck found Bundy in front of the net, despite two Ram defenders providing close coverage. Bundy's first shot was a right-footer that was blocked by the defender. The ball went right back to her, and this time Bundy put a left-footed shot past Eden for the goal.
