MISSION STATEMENT
The URI Spirit Program is committed to providing a dynamic and positive environment for young women to pursue excellence. This includes individual growth, character, discipline, commitment, leadership, and teamwork. We believe in education through sport and practicality.
PROGRAM INFORMATION
URI Cheer is a Division 1 All-Girl cheerleading squad. The cheerleaders are a major part of the University and community. This presence stems from our spirit and support at the football, and men's and women's basketball games.
In addition to the cheerleaders' commitment to athletic events, the squad attends UCA College Camp at the University of Scranton in the preseason and travels with the men's and women's basketball teams in the postseason. The cheerleaders compete annually in the UCA College National Championship in Orlando, FL, the squad won the Open All Girl Division 1 Gameday National Championship in 2020. The squad also competes in the Traditional All-Girl Division 1 category, having recorded fifth-place finish in 2023.
If you are strongly interested in the program, it would be beneficial to plan a visit and organize a day with a current cheerleader. This can include the observation of practice and/or game day experience. Please reach out to uricheerleading@etal.uri.edu in order to schedule a recruit visit.

Minimum Skill Requirements:
Stunting
Clean Game Day Stunts with Spinning
-Traditional college full ups
-College Level Inversions (back handspring up, hand in hand, rewind etc.)
-Knowledge of all-girl flipping baskets
Tumbling
-Standing Tuck (ability to show on basketball court)
-Running tuck, layout, full (fulls preferred)
-Whip series if you do not have the capacity to full on dead mat
*All skills should be performed on a dead mat and standing tucks should be performed on turf and basketball courts.
Participants will also be judged on interview, crowd appeal, and cheer skills.
