Kelsea Lawson: Down Under

Hi! I'm Kelsea Lawson, a rising sophomore from Adelaide, Australia. Unlike some of my other teammates, I haven't done an internship or work experience, but I have gotten up to some pretty cool things while being back home in Australia!

Pretty soon after I got back home, I was lucky enough to be selected to play for my state (South Australia) lacrosse team, where we participated in the Australian National Championships in Melbourne. It was so much fun to play with all of my home friends again, and even better to come out as national champions! A great start to my break!

Next up was the Australian Lacrosse sixes camp at the South Australian Institute of Sport. It was a super cool experience to play with the best athletes from the country, and to train in the best facilities in the state. We also had a new coach, Katrina Dowd, head coach of the Brown University lacrosse team which was amazing, and I know we all learned so much from her! It was an intense 4 day camp, but really rewarding to make new friends and learn new skills.

Apart from those big events, I have been working as a swimming instructor at a few pools local to me, and I have also been doing some learning support tutoring at my local high school. It's been really good to keep me busy and save up for the upcoming semester! On top of that, I have also been back playing for my club lacrosse team where I play with my best friends and my sister which is always really special, and have had so much fun being back around the club atmosphere. In between I've been trying to see my friends as much as possible, filling my time with beach walks, lots of awesome restaurants, gym trips and trying lots of new cooking recipes!

I have loved being back home with my family and friends, but I'm also very keen to go back to URI!
