Former PGA Tour winner Bob Menne was named volunteer assistant coach for the Rams at the start of the 2015-16 season.
Menne is a native of Gardner, Mass. who played collegiate golf at the University of Miami. He had seven Top 10 finishes in PGA Tour competition and won seven times as a professional, including the 1970 Kemper Open, cashing the biggest check on the tour that year. That same year, he lost a dramatic playoff to Lee Trevino in the National Airlines Open - which later became the Jackie Gleason Open, a popular stop on the PGA Tour. He has also played in multiple golf majors throughout his professional career.
"In Bob Menne we get a first class gentleman and a consummate professional. Very few programs, if any, have a PGA Tour winner on its staff," said head coach Gregg Burke. "He has been a student and teacher of the game for over half a century, which will be invaluable to our continued growth. Certainly having someone who beat Sam Snead, Billy Casper, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson, Tom Weiskopf, Ken Venturi, Johnny Miller and the like adds a dimension to our team that very few programs have."
The individual medalist in the 1969 and 1988 New England PGA, the 1975 Maine Open, the 1981 Massachusetts Open, the 1985 New England Open, and the 1991 RI Open, Menne also played on the Champions Tour and the European Senior Tour. Upon retiring from professional golf, he was a PGA Professional in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Florida and, currently, Point Judith Country Club in Rhode Island.
