Greg Barber

Greg Barber enters his fourth season with the Rhode Island men's golf program in 2016-17.

Barber, a lifelong Rhode Islander, grew up in West Warwick and was an All-State golfer who helped his West Warwick H.S. team to the 1963 State Championship.  He captained both the basketball and golf teams in addition to playing for the Wizards football team.

Recognized as one of the best amateur golfers at the time, he won the 1963 and 1964 CYO state golf championships.  He later competed for both the 1967 and 1968 Rhode Island Golf Association's (RIGA) entry into the Tri-State Championships.  He was a 1968 semi-finalist in the RIGA State Amateur Championship.

"Having Greg as part of our coaching staff is an important step in the development of the program.  He is a former champion golfer, a RI success story in his business career, and a role model for me and for our student-athletes," head coach Gregg Burke said.  "His passion for the game and development of our golf program is another piece of the puzzle as we strive to be the best in New England and in the Atlantic 10."

A 1969 graduate of Boston College who served in Vietnam, Barber pursued a career in finance at Fleet Bank before becoming a founding partner in an investment firm.  A Boston College trustee for 12 years, he was honored with the first-ever John P. Curley Award Outstanding Contributor to Boston College Athletics Award.

His wife, Geraldine, is a 1970 graduate of the University of Rhode Island and his father, Paul, was a team doctor for the Rams.
