2021 (Redshirt Senior)

  • Team co-captain.
  • Finished the season with a 10-5-2 record, six shutouts, a 1.02 goals against average and a .791 save percentage.
  • Was named to the A-10's All-Conference Second Team as well as the All-Academic Team.
  • Also was a three-time A-10 Defensive Player of the Week.
  • Posted his first shutout of the season in URI's 2-0 win over Central Connecticut.
  • Made a season-high seven saves in Rhody's 1-0 win at UConn.
  • Stopped five shots in a 1-1 double-overtime draw with Providence.
  • Recorded four saves in a shutout win over St. Bonaventure.
  • Stopped both shots he faced in a 1-0 win at Dayton.
  • Made five saves against Fordham for his third straight shutout victory.
  • Had six saves in a scoreless draw at UMass.
  • Made three saves in URI's 3-1 win over Davidson in the A-10 Quarterfinals.

2020 (Redshirt Senior)

  • Elected to stay in his home country of Germany during the 2020-21 academic year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2019 (Redshirt Junior)

  • Earned the start in Rhody's season opener, after missing nearly a full year due to injury.
  • Made eight saves in back-to-back games against Boston College and Providence.
  • Recorded his first shutout of the season in a 1-0 double-overtime win at George Washington.
  • Made six saves in a 2-0 win at Saint Joseph's.
  • Stopped each of the five shots he faced in URI's 1-0 win at Brown.
  • Made four saves in a shutout win at UMass.
  • Recorded his fifth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win against Davidson.
  • Made three saves in a 0-0 draw with Fordham in the Atlantic 10 semifinals... Went on to make three saves in the penalty-kick shootout to lead Rhody to the A-10 title game.
  • Stopped three shots in a 1-0 shutout victory over Dayton in the A-10 championship game.
  • Was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team, All-Academic Team and All-Championship Team.

2018 (Junior)

  • Appeared in two games before suffering a season-ending injury.
  • Combined for four saves and did not allow a goal through his 154:47 played.
  • Made his Rhode Island debut against Holy Cross, stopping each of the three shots he faced to lead URI to a 3-0 victory.
  • Played the first 64:47 of the game - to combine with teammate Roger Penske for the shutout - in a 3-0 victory at Providence.

Before URI

  • Played for FC Carl Zeiss Jena from 2007-2018, captaining his U15, U17 and U19 teams.
  • Made appearances for the U17 and U16 German National Teams.
  • Played 20 games in the men's Oberliga and 11 games in the men's Regionalliga.
  • Helped lead his 2016-17 team to the Men's Regionalliga championship title and promotion to the 3rd Bundesliga.
  • 2014-14 and 2015-16 teams were State Cup champions.
  • Played 20 games in the U19 Bundesliga in both 2014-15 and 2013-14.
  • Also was a member of the runner-up team at the 2013-14 School World Championship.

Personal

  • Born Aug. 13, 1996.
  • Son of Andrea and Rainer Schmidt.
  • Has one younger brother, Tom.
  • Enjoys reading, fitness, climbing, weight training and kick boxing.
  • Favorite team is FC Carl Zeiss Jena.
  • Chose to attend URI over Coastal Carolina and Loyola Marymount.
  • Selected Rhode Island because he felt it would give him the best opportunity to become a top goalkeeper and win championships while getting the best possible education. 
  • Future plans include studying medicine and becoming a psychiatrist.
