Jackson Coutts joined the Rhode Island staff before the 2025 season as an assistant coach/manager of data analytics.
He returned to his alma mater after playing professional baseball from 2020-2024. Coutts began his career in the Washington Nationals organization, signing as an undrafted free agent. In two seasons in the Nationals’ minor league system, he played 67 games and batted .271 (59-for-218) with 15 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 30 runs batted in.
After two seasons in the Nationals’ system, Coutts was with the Joliet Slammers of the Frontier League from Aug. 2022-May 2023. Coutts spent his final two seasons with the Northern Colorado Owlz of the Pioneer League, where he set the franchise single-season record with 126 hits. With Northern Colorado he batted .373 with 50 doubles, six triples, 38 home runs and 199 RBI in 175 games.
A former Rhode Island baseball player, Coutts earned 2018 Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors for the Rams. He was the New England Collegiate Baseball League Rookie of the Year in 2018 and won a Cape Cod League championship in 2018 with the Wareham Gatemen.
Coutts earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Rhode Island in 2021. While he was a student-athlete, he was a Lambs to Rams captain, serving as a student-athlete orientation leader and mentoring a group of 12 URI freshmen. He also was an Atlantic 10 representative for URI’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Coutts is married to the former Meghan Ellis, a former member of the Rhode Island women’s rowing team.
