Rhode Island women's basketball head coach Colleen Mullen announced Shae O'Brien will be joining her in Kingston as Director of Basketball Operations, it was announced in May 2026. O'Brien joins the staff after serving in a similar role at UAlbany during the 2025-26 season. He oversaw team logistics while also assisting with scouting and practice preparation. As a former practice player with the program, he was part of two 20-win seasons and two conference championship game appearances.
He graduated from UAlbany in May 2025 with a degree in business administration, concentrating in marketing and management. A Magna Cum Laude student and recipient of the 1844 Scholarship, he was named to the UAlbany Dean's List five times
