Rhode Island women's soccer head coach
Megan Jessee announced the addition of Matt Anderson to the staff in May of 2024.
Prior to arriving in Kingston, Anderson was on the St. John's women's soccer staff. He started as the director of soccer operations in July 2022, before being elevated to the role of assistant coach ahead of the 2023 season.
Anderson primarily mentored the goalkeepers during his time with the Red Storm. He guided two different keepers that rank top seven in program for most shutouts in a single-season with seven. In 2022, Gina Muzi recorded a goals against average of 0.86 and this past year Maria O' Sullivan recorded 56 saves and earned a BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week nod.
Before his time in Queens, Anderson spent a season as an assistant coach with the UAlbany women's soccer program. Under his tutelage, two Great Dane players were named to the America East All-Conference First Team. Freshman goalkeeper Cassandra Coster earned all-rookie recognition for UAlbany and finished 13th nationally in save percentage that season.
Prior to his time at UAlbany, Anderson served as an assistant coach at St. Francis Brooklyn from 2019-21. Anderson assisted in building the program that began in 2019. During his time there, he oversaw the first home and road wins in program history. He played an integral part in Avery Gonzalez earning the program's first ever all-conference accolade, an NEC All-Rookie Team honor.
Before his time with the Terriers, Anderson served as an assistant coach with The Kings College men's team in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. from 2018-19. While acting as their assistant coach, a pair of his student-athletes would garner the conference's Rookie and Player of the Year awards, and the United State Collegiate Athletic Association's Player of the Year award. Anderson also brought the team to the playoffs for the first time in school history, as well as their first appearance in the Division III NCAA Tournament.
An English native, Anderson earned his bachelor of science degree from Teeside University in 2017. He is currently pursuing his master's degree online from Middlesex University.
