Meredith Gibbons enters her eighth year as an academic advisor/learning specialist in 2019-20. 

Prior to joining the academic advising staff, Gibbons worked as a developmental tutor for men and women’s basketball here at Rhode Island from 2011-2013. She designed individual learning plans and study strategies for each player, in addition to preparing various study aides, and taught necessary academic skills to foster independence while providing appropriate support. 

She started out her academic advising career as a graduate assistant at the University of Massachusetts. In that role she assisted in course selection as well as tracking degree requirements, maintained student records, supervised study halls and administered exams for athletes.

Gibbons has 20 years of experience in the field. She has worked as an instructor at the College Learning and Study Skills-Talent Development Summer Program, a course tutor at the Talent Development Summer Program and the Tutorial Coordinator for Talent Development all at the University of Rhode Island. 

Elsewhere she has held different positions at different institutions including St. Paul’s School of Concord, N.H., the Proctor Academy of Andover, N.H. and The Williston Northampton School of Easthampton, Mass.

Gibbons has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Rhode Island and a master’s degree in physical education, specialization in sports psychology from Springfield College.
