Brittney Miles was announced as Rhode Island's Deputy Athletic Director and Chief Operating Officer on March 25, 2026.

In this role, Miles will oversee the daily operations and long-term strategy of the athletics program.

Miles previously spent seven years as URI's Deputy Athletic Director for Internal Operations. She also as the interim Athletic Director after Thorr Bjorn resigned in November to take a position at the University of Massachusetts. She served in the role for fourth months until Pat Lyons was appointed by University President Marc Parlange.

In the few months she was in the role, Miles helped secure more than $500,000 in new fundraising efforts. She also has played a key role in directing the $65 million athletics complex renewal project, working to ensure the outdoor track and field and Meade Stadium projects remain on time and within budget.

In her previous role as Associate AD for Internal Operations, Miles oversaw student-athlete admissions, housing, dining plans and financial aid packages. She also serves as the athletic department liaison with related departments on campus. Miles - who spent her first six years at Rhode Island as a member of the academic advising staff - also has served as the sport administrator for football, men’s basketball, women’s rowing, men’s soccer, women's lacrosse and women's volleyball. In her new role, she will continue to be the sport adminstrator for football, men's basketball and women's lacrosse.

Miles originally came to Rhode Island from WestBridge Community Services in Medford, Mass. where she served as the Boston Area Team - Clinical Team Manager.

In that role she conducted initial screenings, intakes and assessments for all new clients receiving outpatient services. She provided individual mental health and substance abuse counseling, crisis management and case management services to outpatient clients. Also, she facilitated group-counseling sessions on several topics including symptom management, relapse prevention and stress management. 

In addition to Clinical Team Manager Miles also served as the OnCOURSE Student Services Liaison for WestBridge. There she oversaw individual and family satisfaction of services, addressed and repaired client complaints as well as initiated and organized educational events targeting higher education professionals and private psychiatrists. 

Prior to WestBridge she worked at the University of New Hampshire as an athletic department tutor coordinator as a graduate student while earning her Masters in Social Work in 2010. She has also worked for City Year New Hampshire as a senior corps AmeriCorps member.

Miles graduated from the University of Vermont in 2007, with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. She also was a scholarship athlete for UVM's women's basketball team, which she captained from 2005-07.
